Is this Berlin’s best Italian?Forget about all the other Italian restaurants in Berlin. Zum Heiligen Teufel in Kreuzberg is all you want. The restaurant, run by two friends from Puglia, offers simple but imaginative cooking featuring exquisite seasonal ingredients at the top of their game. The ever-changing menu is tiny, you get to sit on a leafy street with lots of nice neighbourhood vibes. Get the Antipasto all‘italiana, a great selection of starters, every bite is of sensationally good quality, including the sourdough bread. They do a very good stracciatella with heirloom tomatoes, sweet red Tropea onions, preserved lemon and a special ‚mole’. Definitely try their vitello tonnato and in early summer the crudo di ombrina, a carpaccio from meagre with a strawberry gazpacho and corn crackers with ricotta, herbs and flowers. Also highly recommended: their homemade fresh pasta.
