Stockholm in a nutshell – casual, Swedish foodSturehof is the place in Stockholm I take foreign guests who have just arrived to the city for the very first time. Great casual, very Swedish food, atmosphere, guests, service - Stockholm in a nutshell!
Vingården is a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, offering an extensive wine list with every day 80-100 wines listed by the glass, in combination with a large wine cellar list, which holds just over 3,000 labels. The menu features a variety of dishes, from seafood and fish to hearty, tender pieces of meat, all prepared in a manner worthy of any southern European piazza. Notable recommendations include the Galician chuleton with sides and vendace roe, making it a must-visit for food and wine lovers.

Wedholms Fisk is a long-standing seafood restaurant, renowned for its emphasis on the freshness and quality of its dishes. The menu offers a strong selection of classics, with options ranging from Swedish oysters to Turbot with horseradish, browned butter, and new potatoes. To ensure the best quality, much of the seafood should be preordered a few days in advance.

Legendary fish and seafood restaurant with no gimmicks, emphasis on the freshness and quality. These days, when new hip and hot places open almost every week, it is way too easy to forget the old classics. Wedholms Fisk, founded by the late and great Bengt Wedholm is a prime example of this. One of Stockholms best (there are actually surprisingly few of them) pure seafood restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and seldom disappoints if the “the real thing” is what you are looking for – a bit like Le Duc in Paris. The menu is strong on classics from Swedish oysters to sole meunier or Turbot with horseradish, browned butter and new potatoes. The Swedish seafood is superb, but a lot of it should be preordered few days in advance to quarantee the quality.
Strömmingsvagnen is a well-known food truck specializing in fried Baltic herring, a traditional Swedish fish meal. Offering tasty dishes like the classic fried Baltic herring with mashed potatoes, or the rye crisp bread with pickled fried Baltic fish, cucumber, onions, and herb mayonnaise, it's a must-visit spot for fish lovers. With its iconic status and affordable prices ranging from 5-10 euros, Strömmingsvagnen brings a unique culinary experience right on the streets.

Fried Baltic herring from a food truck-a must when in Stockholm!A traditional Swedish fish meal for 5-10 euros? Yes, this is the case at Strömmingsvagnen-the iconic fried Baltic herring food truck in Stockholm. The food truck-more known under the text of the sign ”Nystekt strömming” (fresh fried Baltic herring)-has been around for ages at Slussen, now on the Old Town side on Kornhamnstorg. Fried Baltich herring with mashed potatoes is the classic, I prefer the knäckebröd rye crisp bread with pickled fried Baltic fish, cucumber, onions and herb mayonnaise. Addictive!
Borasco is a restaurant that serves Mediterranean cuisine, with an emphasis on Spanish and Mallorcan dishes, reflecting the culinary journey of its chef, Lukas Moderato. The menu is known for its full-flavored dishes, which are simple yet meticulously balanced, and features a range of fire-cooked meat and seafood options, including grilled sardines and petite artichokes. The establishment also boasts a casual atmosphere where guests can enjoy a selection of wines from Europe, both natural and classic, alongside their meal.

Mediterranean cooking, extra focus on Spain and Mallorca where chef Lukas Moderato started as a chef. One of the most interesting restaurant openings in Stockholm fall 2021. Borasco is the wind that comes with flash and thunder after a storm, common in the Mediterranean where the kitchen’s heart lies.Lukas Moderato is a very talented chef with a great track record of running his own iconic places; my favourite being Deville, but also Carousel next to the Opera and Dining Club (all closed now). The food is full on flavor. It’s not complicated, there’s not too much of crazy spices but it’s balanced to the bone. Fire cooking is a red thread: of course a lot of meat, but also grilled sardines or petite artichokes that have just been touched by the flames. Don’t miss: the tomatoes with anchoas, such a simple thing but the burnt butter on top does it all. The bread served with chicken fat butter, oh my! The mentioned artichokes, of course. And grab either the Mangalitsa pork or piece of meat — or both.Wines are at the point too. Mainly Europe, a good mix och natural and more classic stuff. The vibe is casual. You can swing by for just a glass of wine and a dish but stay for a full dinner.
