Modern Korean BBQ in West Loop
While most of the mom & pop Korean joints are way up north on Lawrence Ave., Perilla is one of the few BBQ houses near downtown, and thankfully they don’t pander to tourists. Andy Lim’s food is both tradition-bound and forward-looking. You can tuck into a bowl of kimchi jigae but also find über chewy rice cakes studded with savory bits of tender bulgogi. Grilling is do-it-yourself and don’t overlook the kimchi fried rice with Spam and egg. Lim’s professional training shines through in his choice of purveyors and farms he sources.
