Expert recommendation

For pastries and bread, I would go to Pioik by Shady Wasef and his wife Rose. He's Egyptian and pioik is the Egyptian word for bread, I believe. His bakery is only open from Thursday to Sunday and you have to get there early. It's only open from seven and they close at 11. But in that little window you can get all sorts of delights. He makes the best panettone in Australia for Christmas, and because I love him so much and he loves me so much, he makes it all year round for me and I have it frozen here in my freezer. It’s so excellent. Also his sourdoughs are faultless. Amazing. He supplies a lot of bread to a lot of restaurants around Sydney.
