Thrilling, fine dining level small dishes from the market stalls of the Boqueria. One of few places in Barcelona that gives you close-up access to the chefs and their work. Arnau Muñío was formerly head chef at Comerc 24, with various stints at other top-end places, before finding himself this cute little spot on the fringes of the Boqueria market. He offers a short tasting menu and a longer, Boqueria tasting menu, both of which shine a light on whatever is in season. Sit back, enjoy the show and the chatter - Muñío is quite happy interacting with guests, as is the small team of precise chefs that help execute some truly outstanding food. Highlights on this visit being a spectacular pumpkin wanton in escudella broth, raw scallops topped with a camagroc mushroom garum and a bowl of chawan mushi with erizo and uncooked, thinly sliced baby okra, and a sublimey runny macha cheesecake. With just 8 covers at the bar, and another 8 on an intimate terrace outside, scoring a table isn’t easy. But it’s well worth the pursuit. Expect to spend around €135 for the long tasting menu with an excellent wine pairing.

Explore the origins of Mediterranean cuisineA super restaurant in the Raval that looks to the civilisations that have come and gone in the Mediterranean and what they ate for inspiration. Some interesting use of garums, and nice plays on texture and temperature as you'd expect from ex-elBulli, but also brilliant meat cooking. Take a seat at the counter and marvel at the calmness of the kitchen as you work your way through the tasting menu or a la carte.

One of our favorite counters serving produce driven dishes and great wines.Bisavis is probably one of the restaurants we mention most often on this page, and this is because we want to come every time we are in Barcelona. The reasons for that are many, first of all, counters are our favorite way of experiencing a restaurant, then, you’re always guaranteed to have a great time with Eduard, and of course, we adore the food here. And regarding the wines, you are guaranteed to drink interesting wines and learn about them, given Eduard’s great passion for the subject. Now, focusing on what we ate, we had the following:* Cuttlefish, truffled egg yolk and Iberian pork jowl.* Picanha, sea urchin & balsamic vinegar.* Bonito (aged for 1 week), sea urchin & pesto.* Blood sausage from Perol & baby cuttlefish.* Blood sausage & prawns from Arenys.* Scallop & sobrassada.* “Tear drop” peas from Maresme & shaved truffle.* Sweetbread & caviar.* Panna cotta & caviar. There are dishes that are served on every visit, some times with a small twist, but then there are also always some new dishes, which is a perfect combo given we often miss specific dishes and also always like to try some new ones. Every single dish is always delicious, but in the case the cuttlefish with Iberian pork jowl was our favorite dish. The wine selection was great as well, and what we love is that we always get to try so many different ones by the glass which most places would only serve by the bottle.Definitely on of our favorite places in the city!
SENSATO Restaurant is a traditional sushi counter in Barcelona, known for its distinctive Omakase menu. The restaurant, owned by former Sato i Tanaka chef, Ryuta Sato, offers a unique blend of otsumamis and nigiris, a departure from the typical order of serving. Some of the standout dishes include O toro zuke with an egg yolk, soy and truffle sauce, Iwashi nigiri, and Unagi nigiri, among others.

Traditional sushi counter serving only Omakase menu. This is definitely the best sushi that we know of currently in Barcelona and also one of the best in Spain. Sato used to work at Sato i Tanaka until he decided to open his own sushiya called Sensato. The restaurant is only a counter, which is the only way we like to enjoy sushi, and serves Omakase only as mentioned. The curious thing about this omakase compared to others we’ve had, is that they mix the otsumamis and the nigiris instead of starting with the otsumamis and then follow it with nigiris. We really enjoyed this format of mixing, and thought it was very nicely balanced to still be able to taste every single bite. Now let’s see some of the dishes we had:* O toro zuke with an egg yolk, soy and truffle sauce.* Iwashi nigiri.* Maguro zuke nigiri.* Gelatine of cockle broth, cockle, tomato and asparagus.* Ikura gunkan.* O toro nigiri.* Shiso with sardine tempura and beetroot tempura.* Unagi nigiri. The whole omakase was around 21 dishes long, these ones mentioned just are some of our favorites. We loved the place, the atmosphere, and above all that, the food! A place we can’t recommend enough, but be warned, it’s hard to book.
